STRIKE SAVER
Downrigger Release...it will change how you fish!
This new downrigger release will challenge you to fish differently but with more versatility and better results...more fish! Take a look at its unique design, quality features and the different options it offers. You don't have a release on your boat today that'll do what Strike Saver does. Learn how to put more fish in your boat every time you're on the water with Strike Saver. Lets take a look at what makes this unique.....

- Eliminates lag line for better hookups with its unique diving and re-surfacing release system, with patent pending swivel plate and tight line "lag line hook" control system. The lag "hook" on top of the release catches and holds the line immediately when a fish strikes. You have a tight line on the fish and can play the fish...reel and the fish can pull out line. The Strike Saver release travels to the surface and you slide your line out of the lag hook about 5-8 feet below the surface and continue to play your fish.
- Never have to raise and lower the cannon ball to reset your line. Water pressure on the diving swivel plate pushes the release, fishing line and lure down to a desired depth. When a fish strikes... the plate is released, swivels and the water pressure pushes the release to the surface with a tight line on the fish. Strike Saver glides along the surface and is now ready re-attach your line. The cannon ball remains in place at the depth set.
- Versatile and flexible… Strike Saver can be lowered by its unique diver plate to any depth along the cable line from the surface down to the cannon ball and can be raised or lowered at anytime to adjust to fish you see on the graph.
- Incorporates the Dubros line release as part of the Strike Saver system. This is a tried and proven commercial release that has been used by fishermen for years.
- Stacking is simple… more than one Strike Saver can be stacked at any depth along the cable...(see our Tips and Tricks for more details).
-
There are three types of Strike Saver downrigger releases: Starboard and port with the lag line arm, and plain without lag line arm which can be used anywhere but was mainly designed to be used when stacking the Strike Saver.
- Line distance versatility... your line/lure distance behind the boat is now totally adjustable without concern for too much lag line and poor hookups…which means you can send out lines short or long distances, single or stacked, with less boat spooking and better hookups and fish catching control…all on a tight line system.
- Use with all types of line… Strike Saver can be used with monofilament, braided, wire or whatever line type you decide.
- Use with different lures and sizes… the adjustable Dubros line release mechanism used by Strike Saver has an adjustable tension screw, which you set based on the size and weight of the lure or setup. Spoons, stick baits, flashers, dodgers, flies, cow bells, spin and go’s and other favorite lure setups can be used with the Strike Saver system.
- False releases waste time… a missed fish or a big wave that throws the release means bringing up the cannon ball and resetting the release. Not any more. Strike Saver is not affected much by big wave action on the surface because it moves up and down the cable. A missed fish results in Strike Saver gliding automatically to the surface, ready to be reset and returned…without raising the cannon ball or even bringing in the line unless you want to check your lure.
- Rod tension is up to you…. its not necessary to have your downrigger rod bent over the back of the boat to hook fish and reduce lag line…less tension still hooks up fish, it’s the tight line maintained by Strike Saver that keeps them hooked and controlled much better. Less wear and tear on your rods and of course less false hookups in the waves. Rod tension is up to you to set.
Let's Review How it Works Exactly....
- When a fish strikes… it pulls the line out of the release and is held in the unique lag line holder/hook, with lag or loose line eliminated from the rod tip to the fish. The Strike Saver swivel plate system, with the fish in play, immediately glides up to the surface without limiting your ability to play the fish on a continuous tight line. The fish can pull out line, you can work your drag and reel line as your new release/line holder does its job. As Strike Saver arrives near the surface, you simply slide the line out of the lag line holder to the port or starboard, and continue to play the fish. You’ve been controlling the fish on a tight line from initial fish strike all the way to the net.
- Then… when you’re ready to reset, Strike Saver is gliding along the surface on the cable waiting for you to grasp with your hand or a boat hook, reset and send down to fish at your desired depth and lure distance behind the boat without ever raising the cannon ball.
The following photos illustrate how the Downrigger Release works:
First...your line is hooked in the release, ready to attach to the down rigger cable and lowered into the water. This red diver plate is for the port side so the lag hook opening is to that side of the boat.

When Strike Saver is lowered to the cannonball it looks like this underwater. The fishing line comes down with the release on the inside of the "lag hook" and attaches to the Dubros release (black with wire mechanism), the relase clip (red clip with rubber) has your line with several twists made and is attached to your lure trailing back behind the boat and snapped into the release. The red swivel plate is locked in place with the wire from the Dubros release mechanism and when a fish strikes....

When a fish strikes.... the wire on the Dubros release flips up, the line is released and caught by the lag line hook. The red swivel plates turns and the water pressure pushes it up the cable to the surface (see below). All the while you've had a tight line from the fish to the rod. When the release approaches the surface within about 5 feet... you point your rod to the side of the boat and your line slides out of the lag hook. You play your fish and Strike Saver remains on top of the water to be re-attached and lowered again. You do not have to raise the cannon ball. Its that simple!
